Welcome to Gospel Parenting

Welcome to Gospel Parenting, the child-training ministry of Robert Andrews, designed to help parents bring up their children in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord," including those involved in the job of independent education. On the following pages you will find products to help you in that task: books on relevant parenting topics by Robert and other authors, along with parenting seminars on DVD on DVD. Robert's blog also provides an opportunity for interaction about the weekly newsletter on the crucial topic of biblical parenting.

  • "Father Time is Undefeated"

If you are a sports fan as I am, you probably recognize the title of this week's posting as an old adage recognizing the inevitable performance decline of all athletes as they age, regardless of their original abilities. That same decline in physical capability awaits as all. Sadly, we live in what Paul calls bodies of "corruption," and Peter says, "All human beings are like grass, and all their glory is like wild flowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall away" (1 Peter 1:24). As a boy I loved sports and participated enthusiastically. Later, I found coaching to be even more enjoyable, and now finally, as a grandparent, watching my grandchildren actively involved in athletics is the best. Until recently, I hardly noticed and did not lament or even regret my physical decline. ...

  • The Mirror

Most Christians think that God desires His children to do their very best to obey His law—reduce their sinful acts and increase their righteous ones. However, the Bible teaches that trying to be obedient to God's law in order to please Him is invariably a fruitless exercise. James says, "For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10). As much as we may not like it, it seems as though God is into absolutes, not "nuanced shades of gray," or "almosts!" We may console ourselves with the thought, "Well, nobody is perfect," but even on our very best days, as much as we may think we are performing beautifully righteousness-wise, we really don't even come close. Here's why: Sin springs from the heart, which expresses itself in not only...

  • A New Year's Resolution?

A friend asked me at our church's New Year's Eve party what did I see ahead for me in the coming year. As I considered my answer, I was impressed with the way she worded the question. I have never been much of a New Year's resolver, because making resolutions seems to imply that I am going to try to affect my life in some positive way by determining to do good and not bad, be diligent and not slothful or a success and not a failure. To me, that would be living by trying to keep the law, which Paul says is a fruitless exercise and even "kills" us (2 Corinthians 3:6). But I took her question to mean, not "What are you going to try to do better?", but "What do you see in your life that God will make it a priority to change in 2017?" As I have thought about that since she asked me, I have...

  • The Proof of the Pudding - A Teacher Discusses Home Schooling

The following is related by David McGrath, emeritus Engish professor at the College of DuPage.  A 10-year-old girl lies in bed with a fever of 104 and a flaming rash on her head and neck. But instead of driving her to the emergency room or even calling a physician, her parents pray at her bedside for a cure. Most states still consider such "treatment" by the parents as a religious right protected by the First Amendment, even though it is perceived by most physicians and lawyers, as well as the American Medical Association, as parental neglect or even abuse. When I was a high school English teacher in Chicago, I viewed home schooling the same way, as a kind of educational abuse, or, at best, neglect. That is because keeping a child out of school deprives him of his essential right to a...

  • Christmas Revisited

In these blog postings during this election year I have discussed at length the Christian's involvement in the United States political process, a natural result of Jesus now ruling from His Father's right hand with "All authority . . . in heaven and on earth" (Matthew 28:18). He has delegated that authority to us, his people, "the saints of the most high" (Daniel 7:27), to reign for Him now, here on the earth, as His vice-regents. By our 1.) proclamation of the gospel of the grace of God, and by 2.) exercising His delegated authority by applying His law to the responsibilities He has given us in our families, jobs and in all other areas of life, the result is 3.) a fallen world will be gradually transformed. The Lord's prayer will be answered: "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on...

People are Saying

I know of no other template for the family where the affirmative proof is seen in the children of the writer and in the children of others who follow this Biblical model. What a tremendous blessing this book has been, and continues to be for us.
